John Hsu for Congress

The Issues

Why will I work for you? I will take no corporate PAC money. I will fundraise with almost all small donations. I will continue to be an activist for the causes that will benefit the people in our society. I will not disband super volunteers. I will not spend all my time raising money. Instead I will be spending my time learning about the issues in committees and through discussions with experts and I will spread the message of what I learn through our district, NJ 6.

Green New Deal. We have 11 years to reduce carbon emissions by 50% or our hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, forest fires and droughts will become considerably worse. The GND is the only plan that takes this issue seriously. Even though there is a lot of disinformation about this plan, I admit there is a lot of work that needs to be done and tons of details that need to be ironed out. However if we don't do this work, we will face the loss of our homes, our coasts and perhaps our liveable future. Let's start treating climate change with the seriousness required before it is too late.

Medicare for all. 2 out of 3 cancer patients wind up in bankrupties in 2 years. Other countries have far superior healtcare systems. Our outcomes are some of the worse in the world yet we pay the most. National healthcare is working for most of the countries in the industrialized world. It will be an enormess undertaking but can we continue down the path we are currently on?

Reduce the wealth gap. Tax policies such as the Trump tax cuts, the Bush tax cuts and offshore tax havens along with economic policies such as NAFTA, an inadequote minimum wage and the weakening of unions have led to a tremendous increase in the wealth gap. I will push to repeal the tax cuts and tax havens and push for economic policies that will benefit the 99%.

Tackle the student debt crisis. With a total student debt of $1.6 trillion and 10% of loans over 90 days of deliquency, we need to tackle this national issue. I propose buying up all student debt and charging 0% interest. This may seem like a radical idea but there has always been an understanding throughout history that too much indebtedness becomes a drag on a society. This idea is illustrated by the jubilee. Why should corporations profit on the backs of young graduates when we need them to participate and contribute to our economy. The return on this investment will be tremendous.
